FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: MALIA’S C.O.R.D. FOUNDATION HOSTS AN
EVENING OF FUN, FASHION AND FRIENDS

FORT MITCHELL, KY., Friends and family of four-year-old Malia Heck have pulled
together to form Malia’s C.O.R.D. (Cure for Others through Research and Development)
Foundation. The Foundation’s mission is to find a cure for pediatric spinal cord tumors by
promoting medical research and increasing public awareness.

Malia and countless other children with this affliction have very few safe treatment options that
provide a cure without inflicting debilitating consequences. The family’s only hope now is that
medical researchers can quickly develop a safer and more effective alternative to radiation.
The Foundation’s first fund-raising event was a Holiday Tea & Fashion Show held in December
which, in addition to last year’s annual appeal, helped the Foundation raise over $100,000.
The first fund-raising event for 2005 will be an evening full of fun, fashion and friends! The
event will take place on Sunday, May 22 from 6:30-9:30 p.m. at SteinMart on Dixie Highway in
Fort Wright, Kentucky.

SteinMart will close its doors to the public and re-open for a private shopping event which will
include refreshments, door prizes and complimentary massages. The first 250 people at the door
will receive a discount coupon. You may purchase tickets on Tuesday, May 10 from 5:00-8:00
p.m. at the Skyline Chili locations in Burlington and Fort Wright, Kentucky. For pre-paid
reservations you may mail a check, payable to Malia’s C.O.R.D. Foundation, to Steinmart
Shopping Event, 422 Larkspur, Edgewood, Ky. 41017. The cost of admission is $20. For more
